Happy Birthday, Jessica!
Last week was my oldest sister's 20th birthday! I can't believe she is that old. She spent her week at the beach with some friends and we were sad we couldn't be with her on her birthday. She came home yesterday and I made her a cake!

Mixed Berry Scones
While my family was in New York over Christmas, we went to the most amazing place ever called Alice's Tea Cup. It is our favorite restaurant now and I can't wait to go back. They had the most delectable scones and I bought the recipe book and decided to make them today. At the restaurant, they have over 15 different types of scones and my favorite was the mixed berry. Scones may seen a little intimidating to make but they are so easy and fun!
Mixed Berry Scones
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp kosher salt
1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup) unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup raspberries
1/2 cup blackberries
1/4 cup hulled and quartered strawberries
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup heavy cream (for brushing on top)
1/4 cup sugar (for sprinkling on top)
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. In large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3. With clean hands, work the butter into the dry mixture until it is thoroughly incorporated and has the consistency of fine breadcrumbs. Add all the berries and stir well.
4. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture, and pour the buttermilk and vanilla into the well. Still using your hands, combine the ingredients until all the dry mixture is wet, but do not knead.
5. Turn the mixture onto a floured surface and gather the dough together. Gently pat the dough to make a disk about 1 1/2 inches thick. Using any biscuit cutter, cut out as many scones as you can and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Gather the remaining dough together lightly to cut out more scones (just don't knead it).
6. Brush the top of each scone liberally with heavy cream and then sprinkle with sugar. Bake the scones until lightly browned.
